The new Tesla Model Y arrives in the UK. Exactly two weeks after its debut in China, the Juniper (this is the project name) enters the company's price list, although for now only in a launch version with a price of £60,990. Cheaper versions will naturally also arrive in the coming weeks.

Renewed in its exterior styling and interior, the Tesla Model Y 2025 picks up the baton from its predecessor, the world's best-selling car in 2023, optimising numerous aspects and adopting innovations requested by users over the years. We tell you all about them below.

Tesla Model Y 2025: the exterior

For a fortnight now, the Tesla forums have been talking about nothing else. The styling of the Tesla Model Y 2025 has been the subject of much discussion. Especially the front end, inspired by the Cyber family (Cybertruck and Cybercab) and crossed by a thin light strip divided into three segments. An innovation that lightens the view of the nose, which has also been revised in its general lines to make it more aerodynamically efficient. Underneath, there is a new camera, much requested by users, to improve front visibility.

On the side, the changes concern the dimensions of the new Tesla Model Y 2025, which has grown by 4 cm to a total of 4.79 metres, all for the benefit of space and load capacity. The 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels have also been redesigned.

At the rear is the element that sparks the most debate: the lights. Once again, there is a 1.6 metre long LED (one of the longest in the automotive world, as Tesla is keen to point out), but instead of projecting light directly, it reflects it onto a special surface. The reason for this is both aesthetic and protective: the light is in fact embedded in a black band that protects it from possible shocks and creates an effect similar to that of some Kia models. I can tell you: in person, it has a completely different effect, and although it adopts an established style, it manages to say something new. For me, it makes a statement. Also noteworthy are the redesigned spoiler and air dam, with the latter emerging from the bodywork to protect it in the event of minor bumps.

Tesla Model Y 2025: the interior

While the exterior of the new Tesla Model Y is a far cry from the restyling of its Model 3 'sibling', the interior is completely in keeping with its style, which remains exquisitely Tesla. At the centre of the dashboard is the touchscreen that controls every aspect of Elon Musk's electric SUV, but with a slightly larger screen, now 15.4-inch (previously 15). The interface is the same, but engineers have worked to improve software speed and connectivity so you don't have to wait to watch streaming content while charging, or download OTA updates even faster.

Then there are the redesigned seats, which are now not only heated but ventilated, new materials, improved assemblies and ambient lighting provided by a thin LED wire that covers almost the entire passenger compartment. Finally, the steering wheel has been redesigned and there is now a classic light switch lever on the left. Say goodbye to the much-criticised buttons on the left-hand side.

Like the rest of the range, the Y Juniper features an 8-inch rear monitor at the end of the front tunnel. From here you can control the climate control and various multimedia content. It's nice and feature-rich, but it's a shame that the position isn't comfortable if you want to play some of the various arcade games on the system.

Finally, there is the boot, which, as already mentioned, increases to 2,138 litres when the rear seats are folded down. There is no information on the minimum capacity, but it should be more than 800 litres.

Tesla Model Y 2025: the engines

As always, Tesla is tight-lipped about the technical details of its powertrains, and the Model Y 2025 is no exception. What we do know is that the chassis has been updated once again along the lines of the Model 3 Highland, with a stiffer body structure and redesigned suspension.

Looking at the versions for sale in China, we know that for now there are 2 versions:
Standard Range rear-wheel drive and Long Range all-wheel drive. The former increases the range from 280 to 290 miles (WLTP cycle), the latter from 331 to 353. On the other hand, the 0-62 mph times are reduced: 5.9 seconds for the rear-wheel drive version and 4.3 seconds for the all-wheel drive version. For both, the top speed drops from 135 to 125 mph.

Tesla Model Y 2025: prices

As mentioned, the new Tesla Model Y can only be ordered from today in the Launch Edition Long Range All Wheel Drive version with prices starting at £60,990. Other versions will be arriving in a few weeks, with prices yet to be announced.

Looking at the Chinese market, the price list of the Tesla Model Y 2025 has increased by about 5 per cent, which should also happen in the UK. Prices currently start at £46,990, so it is likely that the new version will have a starting price of just over £49,000.
