The New Year is upon us and it's going to be a very rich 2025 with all kinds of new models, including SUVs, compact cars, supercars and several latest-generation electric cars.

We have put together a list of the 10 most eagerly awaited models due to their promising sales and technical innovations. Here they are.

10. Hyundai Inster

2025 is the year when several electric cars will arrive under the fateful £25,000 mark. So we start the ranking with one of the first to do so, the Hyundai Inster. It is styled as a crossover but the dimensions are designed for the city with a length of 3.80 metres. There are two power levels, 97 or 115 PS, and two battery sizes with a range of up to 220 miles. It recharges at 11 kW or 85 kW direct current and with the V2L can also release energy.

There's more space inside than you'd think with flattened surfaces and a sliding rear bench, and the driver assistance equipment is also rich with adaptive cruise control and much more. £23,495 is the price of the less powerful version, for the other it goes up to £25,045 depending on the equipment.

9. Renault 4

The retro-design recipe worked with the 5 and now Renault is trying again with the 4. It is about 20 centimetres longer and measures 4.18 metres. It has a crossover bodywork, with ground clearance of over 18 centimetres, and therefore focuses on practicality. Round headlights at the front, vertical at the rear and the typical body-coloured pillar. Inside, the retro air can be found in the designs and materials of the upholstery, as well as in the horizontal vents, while for the rest there is no lack of digital instrumentation and Google infotainment.

There is a 420 litre boot and two battery sizes for two power levels: 120 or 150 PS, for a range of up to 250 miles. It is still early days for prices, but they should be around £30,000 base.

8. Jeep Compass

We already have an official teaser of the new Jeep Compass. It continues to be produced in Italy, in Melfi, but changes completely. The styling is squarer than before, more modern and similar to the Avenger. The platform is the STLA Medium, the same as the Peugeot 3008, and so it comes both electric, with a battery capacity of around 97 kWh and a range of up to 435 miles, and hybrid.

If it follows like its French sister's example, it will be fitted with either a 136 PS 1.2-litre mild hybrid or a 195 PS 1.6-litre plug-in. Except that the Peugeot hybrid has front-wheel drive only, while from a Jeep we expect an all-wheel drive solution. We'll see. Digital interior, certainly, but it is easy to imagine that materials and solutions are also designed to be as practical as possible. Given that the current one costs around £36,600 as a base, it is logical to expect a similar starting price.

7. Fiat 500 Hybrid

At the Mirafiori plant, the electric 500 will be flanked by the hybrid variant. A useful solution to take productivity to new levels and to offer an appealing variant of the new 500 to a wider public. From a styling point of view, we do not expect much new, perhaps a slightly different grille and the Torino badge, which is the name of the new 500 hybrid.

More uncertain, however, is the engine used. The current 500 uses a 70 PS 1.0, but it is more likely that the new one will mount the 100 PS 1.2 that is expected in the Grande Panda.

6. Mercedes CLA

We have already been on board a prototype for a quick first ride. The new Mercedes CLA is interesting because it marks a bit of a new beginning. For a start, it has a new platform called MMA for electric motors but also hybrids. The electric is 800V, can have four-wheel drive and promises up to 466 miles, with a single control unit overseeing all aspects of the car.

The mild hybrid has a new 1.5 four-cylinder petrol engine with 136 PS, 163 PS and 190 PS that, with a 27 PS electric motor, can also go electric-only. There is also a new infotainment system, the MB.OS, developed entirely by Mercedes. We will know more later this year.

5. Volkswagen T-Roc

In our ranking it is probably one of those that will grind out the most sales. The Volkswagen T-Roc enters its second generation changing a lot, but not in style. We have reconstructed it this way, with a clear Tiguan influence at the front, its headlights joined by a full-width LED strip. It will be a little longer than the current one, at around 4.30 metres.

The platform is the MQB Evo and as for the engines we expect the 1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol from the Golf, as well as the 2.0 turbodiesel also with all-wheel drive. There will certainly be a plug-in with 60 miles of electric range, perhaps even more, while some even talk of a new full hybrid debuting with this car and then extending to other models and brands in the group.

4. Lamborghini Temerario (Spyder ?)

In 2025 Lamborghini will start rolling out the first Temerario examples from the Sant'Agata factory. And we could then drive it and admire it in the test drive that will be organised and that will give journalists from all over the world the chance to assess how the successor to the much-loved and successful Huracan goes.

Aluminium bodywork, twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine with 10,000 rpm and 800 PS plus three electric motors for all-wheel drive and a total output of 920 PS thanks to the plug-in hybrid. Only 1.20 metres high and 2 metres wide, it is a true supercar and the price tag confirms it: €315,000 (approx. £260,000) starting price. And who knows, maybe later this year Lambo might decide to give us a peek at the Spyder version as well.

3. Fiat Grande Panda

In July 2025, the Panda family will expand again with a new model, but the star of the year is the Grande Panda. It flanks the Pandina, not replacing it, as it is 3.99 metres long. It is based on the Smart-Car platform, the same as the Citroën C3, and can be had electrically, for a range of around 186 miles, and as a mild hybrid with the 1.2 three-cylinder 100 PS engine and automatic transmission, with a base price of under €19,000.

Retro style on the outside, SUV air, spacious yet digital interior. We think it has what it takes to do well: we'll see.

2. Alfa Romeo Stelvio

In 2024 the Junior, in 2025 the Stelvio! The second generation of Alfa's mid-size SUV is born again in Italy, but is otherwise all new. We have reconstructed it from a few sources that have seen the model in development.

The grille with the “perforated” snake and cross actually appeared on the Junior, while the two-tier headlights are now so fashionable. The side remains similar to before and there is a large LED light triangle etched into the sheet metal. Too early to talk about the interior while the construction platform is the new STLA Large and no longer the Giorgio.

It will also be electric, with the Quadrifoglio version that could reach 1,000 PS, but also petrol or hybrid. We don't know what engines it will adopt, but in the United States, the Dodge Charger that uses the same platform has a 3.0-litre straight-six with 550 PS.

1. Electric Ferrari

First place has to be a Ferrari. This, in fact, is the year in which Maranello unveils its first electric car in history. We have reconstructed it from a mock-up spotted during testing, which may resemble a kind of crossover in its shape. Perhaps it will therefore be a more compact four-seater than the Thoroughbred. Nothing is known yet. Some rumours even mention a price tag of half a million euros.

Electric Ferrari

Certainly many have already turned up their noses and, of course, this is a car for very few people. So why have we put it on the list? Because as usual, when Ferrari does something, it does it well, and so the curiosity is how the Prancing Horse designers have reinvented the electric car and created this vehicle that promises to be extraordinary.

Incidentally, Jony Ive, the designer behind the iPhone, is also working on the project. In short, technology, never-before-seen solutions, performance, design, sound: for Ferrari, 2025 is the year that marks a before and an after.
